Event Review: RedBlacks Media Tour

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

On October 16th 2015, CUSS went behind the scenes at TD Place to get an inside view of the media and operational side of the Ottawa Redblacks game.

From standing in the middle of the field at TD Place to touring the building and seeing where the cameras are located and how the games are broadcasted, the Redblacks Media Tour was definitely an event I am glad I didn’t miss out on.

TD Place is now what used to be Lansdown Park and the change that has occurred is astonishing; with a public park near by, restaurants, and apartment complexes surrounding the stadium, it’s quite a place to be.

When we went on the tour, the people who were giving us the tour were very invested in TD Place; it was obvious that they are very much passionate about their job and what they do. It made the tour very interesting and much more engaging.

I found out a lot of facts that I didn’t know about, such as the colours of the seats and the pattern they used was engineered to make it look like there are more people when the game airs on TV, which I found very interesting.

As the tour progressed, we were able to go into some rooms to see how everything works and where sports broadcasters work, and where the cameras are and how many cameras there are.

It was almost surreal to see how much production does into broadcasting a game on television and to set up the equipment and how much equipment is involved. The tour has really opened my eyes to the inner workings of an industry I hope to work in one day.
