Interview with Social Media Director

Updated: Apr 27, 2020

We sat down with one of our Social Media Directors Erin Boyle. She was super interested in the social media aspect of CUSS and decided to run for a position that means a lot to her. She is currently finishing up her Second year and we hope she continues to play a huge role in CUSS in her upper year studies. We love you Erin! Below are Erin’s lovely answers;

  1. When/Why did you join CUSS? I joined CUSS as a first year representative in 2016. I joined CUSS because I wanted to be a part of something within my program and after meeting the executives at my orientation day I knew that they were a group that I wanted to be a part of.

  2. What has been your favourite thing about your position?                                           I am currently the Social Media Director on CUSS and my favourite part of the position is the fact that it is very engaging. I get to schedule posts on all media platforms which allows for creativity. I really enjoy responding to messages on our different accounts as we are the first point of contact for most students.

  3. What did you learn from this specific position?                                                               I learned that social media can be fun but it can also be very challenging at times. There were numerous times throughout the year where my team and I witnessed our engagement numbers dropping and it was our responsibility to try to maximize outreach with every post.

  4. Why did you run for the current position you have?                                                     I ran for the current position of Social Media Director because I love social media. I am obsessed with creating fun Instagram posts and using hashtags. I find it very interesting how one post can create such an outreach. Social media is something that I want to potentially do as a career so this position was a perfect fit for me.

  5. What is your favourite thing about CUSS?                                                                      My favourite thing about CUSS is all of the friends that I have made. I would not have met the amazing people and made such great friends without being in CUSS. For that I will be forever grateful that I have been a apart of such a wonderful executive team.

  6. What was the most challenging aspect of your position?                                          The most challenging aspect of my position was to create engaging posts that were not repetitive on every social site. Our followers want diverse content and that was definitely the most challenging thing to create.

  7. Do you think being on CUSS is manageable for students (explain)?                         I think being on CUSS is 100% manageable for students and their schedules. Everyone on CUSS is very understanding if you cannot attend a meeting or an event due to school work or another conflict. What’s amazing about CUSS is that it only requires a couple hours a week and everyone is very supportive of each other. It’s really an amazing environment for a student who wants to get more involved in their program but doesn’t want to be too stressed with extra work.

  8. If you had any advice for anyone in Communications thinking about running for CUSS exec, what would you say?                                                                                My advice to everyone thinking about running for exec is DO IT. Take the leap and try out for a position. When I was in my first year I was so nervous about applying that I almost backed out 5 minutes before the first general meeting. I am very happy that I didn’t because CUSS truly introduced me to some of my very best friends and has allowed me to grow in networking, public speaking, and confidence.

  9. Is there anything you wish you got to accomplish this year as a member of the EXEC team?                                                                                                                             As a member of the exec team this year I wanted to make more connections with the students in Communications as well as faculty and I feel that I have succeeded in doing so by participating in more events and emailing back and forth with faculty members about networking socials.

  10. If you could describe your year on the 2017-2018 CUSS team in one word, what would it be?

Engaging
